Pursuing its concept of root city (cf. DATY, Villes Racines 2012-19), Daty
wants to show with this work that in order to develop, the city (in the
architectural sense, but also in the sense of the ancient Greek ‘Polis’: a
human structure , a social community) needs ‘roots’: cultural
references, traditions, customs, brought by the thousands of beings who
made it up and who will develop all the more as the city projects itself
towards the sky such as an unlimited tower of Babel.
Downtown Los Angeles is the perfect expression, in this work, of this
image. It stands proudly on the horizon, an absolute landmark. But this
‘heart’ would be nothing without the rings of communication that
serve and surround it.
Like the electrons around the neutron of the atom, the city is here also
like a living cell in constant movement: the skyscrapers are its heart, the
highways are its rings, the living beings are its vibrant and indispensable
energy.
