About the Artwork

In Celestial Glow, Haleh Mashian transforms the emotional teardrop into a cosmological event. Across a wide horizontal canvas, large sculptural teardrops, each one a world unto itself, rise from a ground filled with dozens of smaller drops. The contrast in scale is deliberate and arresting: the monumental forms feel geological, even planetary, while the surrounding field of miniature drops reads like a living atmosphere, perpetually in motion.

Each large teardrop is built up in heavy impasto and mixed media, their surfaces recalling the cross-sections of raw mineral specimens. Mashian outlines each form in glittering gold relief, a gesture that elevates the organic shapes into sacred objects.

The work shares sensibility with the Arte Povera movement's insistence on the spiritual potential of raw matter, and with Gustav Klimt's integration of gold as both surface and symbol. Mashian's teardrops continue in this tradition. Each one is simultaneously pigment and geology, water and light, the microscopic and the vast.
