About the Artwork
Golden Hour II turns landscape into material presence, where time is registered through accumulation. The surface is built in horizontal strata that recall geological formation as much as painterly gesture. What reads initially as a horizon dissolves into a dense field of tactile detail: ridges, embedded fragments, and irregular breaks that resist continuity.
The palette is restrained yet luminous. Golds are interwoven with subtle greens and grays, suggesting the tonal shifts of dusk. This sense of light is further activated by LED backlighting, where softly changing, bright color emerges through fissures in the striations. These illuminated interruptions introduce a mysterious internal rhythm, moving between concealment and exposure.
Art historically, the work aligns with postwar abstraction’s focus on process and materiality, treating the surface as a site of accumulation rather than illusion. Here, time is not depicted but embedded. It is compressed into layers and released through light.
