About the Artwork
A dense cluster of butterflies emerges from a curtain of dripped pigment, their wings built up in raised relief and traced in silver against a field of deep greens and inky blues. Vertical rivulets of paint fall the length of the canvas, some pooling into pale washes at the edges, others cutting straight through the swarm like rain through branches. The butterflies themselves seem caught mid-emergence, half formed, half dissolving back into the surface they rise from.
The painting continues Mashian's ongoing inquiry into transformation, using the butterfly as a recurring figure for change that is neither instant nor easy. Layered, textured, and built through repeated gesture, the surface reads as a record of becoming, a journey traced not toward a fixed destination but through the accumulation of small, persistent shifts.
