Kujenga 12

Kujenga 12 is the most linear work in the series. A narrow shaft of clear glass climbs from a split stainless steel base. Along its length, small hooked brackets project from the column like rungs or notations, each tinted a different color: tangerine near the top, cobalt at the center, pale green and soft yellow below.

The restraint is deliberate. With most of the column left clear, the glass behaves less like an object and more like a line drawn in space, and the colored brackets become the events along it. The eye moves from one to the next the way it would follow notes on a staff or floors on an elevation drawing.

A faint gradient runs through the body of the sculpture, from lavender at the top to warm yellow near the base. It is barely perceptible in flat light and becomes vivid when light rakes across the glass, so the work reveals itself gradually.

Kujenga, Swahili for building, frames the piece as construction pared to its essentials: a spine, a set of joints, and light passing through both.
