Kujenga 7

Kujenga 7 rises as a column of stacked glass blocks in deep crimson, garnet and amber. Each unit is offset slightly from the one below it, so the silhouette steps in and out as it climbs. Set on a brushed stainless steel base, the sculpture stands more than forty-four inches tall while occupying barely three inches of width, a slender vertical that carries surprising visual weight.

The series title comes from the Swahili word for building, and the work makes that act visible. Each block is a distinct decision, placed and cantilevered against the last, so the finished form reads as a record of its own construction. The irregular profile keeps the column from feeling monolithic. It appears assembled rather than cast.

Color is where the piece becomes atmospheric. Light passing through the red glass deepens toward oxblood in the denser sections and warms to ember where the blocks thin out, and the tones shift as the viewer moves around it. The cool, industrial steel base grounds that glow.

Kujenga 7 works as both architecture and light source in miniature: a tower that changes with the hour and the angle of approach.
