Sheppard's recent month-long excursion across Italy, France, and Monaco served as inspiration when creating "Pink Kink David" which draws inspiration from Michelangelo's "David". The artist incorporated elements of pink and kink to accentuate the work, reflecting contemporary advancements in embracing open sexuality and orientation.
Known for adding sculptural elements to paintings to accentuate linework, the artist leaves the finished work somewhat flat, with the most ideal points of view being forward and backward. This design choice left the sides and interior exposed, revealing the rough materiality and psychologically resembling a cut-out paper doll.
