Spire 10

Spire 10 is the broadest column in the series, and it uses that width to carry a full spectrum. Clear glass at the top gives way to bands of lavender and violet, then deep crimson, turquoise and green, before settling into warm amber and copper at the base. The bands are not perfectly level. Many curve and tilt slightly, like layers of liquid caught mid-settle.

At six inches wide, the sculpture has room for the color to develop depth. Viewed from the front, the bands read as flat stripes; from the side, the layered sheets of glass become visible, and the color reveals itself as a stack of translucent planes rather than a painted surface.

The vertical progression from cool to warm gives the work a direction. The eye starts at the clear, light-filled top and moves down into increasingly dense, saturated color, as if descending through water or through the hours of a day toward sunset.

Mounted on a brushed stainless steel base, Spire 10 combines architectural scale with the luminosity of stained glass.
