Wallpaper New Horizon

In Wallpaper - New Horizon, Brigitte Puschmann suspends a botanical suggestion inside a field of weather. Soft grays and lavenders drift across the surface like fog, and through them rise deep green blades, a flat green disc, and passages of pink and pale yellow that read as light rather than as objects. Nothing hardens into a plant, yet the presence of one is unmistakable.

Puschmann came to painting full-time in 2024 after a career spent studying transformation inside large organizations, and that interest in how systems shift shapes her work. Here the composition is held together not by drawing but by pressure: the dark verticals brace the edges, the softer center keeps opening. Order and dissolution are given equal weight, and neither is allowed to win.

The title points to the paradox. Wallpaper implies a flat, repeating, decorative surface; Horizon implies distance and depth. The painting holds both at once, a pattern that will not stay flat and a landscape that will not resolve into one. This is the movement the artist describes as making the balance between stability and change visible.

The result is a work built for sustained looking. Approached quickly it registers as atmosphere and color; held longer, it opens into structure, and the eye begins to travel through it rather than across it.
