Lamme’s “Admiration of Magi” reinterprets the grand tradition of narrative painting through a lens that is both reverent and disorienting. The composition brims with a dense layering of architectural and symbolic elements, where figures dissolve into the ornate spectacle of the scene itself. “Admiration of Magi” grandeur meet a contemporary, almost hallucinatory fragmentation, as light and color refract through a tapestry of structures, celestial forms, and fevered brushwork. Lamme destabilizes the viewer’s gaze, forcing an oscillation between the sacred and the surreal, where devotion is both a subject and a mode of seeing.
