ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Through the composition and symbolism employed in “La Coquette” the woman’s figure with the brick wall urges us to reconsider the notion of boundaries and encourages us to embrace change, discard the past, and embrace a future of authenticity and empowerment.
“La Coquette” celebrates breaking free from the confines of the old mold that paves the way for personal liberation and the forging of a new, empowered path.
In “La Coquette,” Haleh Mashian showcases her artistic mastery by portraying the profile of a nude woman against a backdrop of torn canvases meticulously reapplied to the painting’s surface. This technique imparts a unique texture to the artwork, creating the illusion that the woman is emerging from a diverse array of materials that compose the plane on which she exists. The fragments of canvas extend beyond the confines of the supporting plane, adding a dynamic interplay between the second and third dimensions, thereby activating the entire work.
