Presented as part of Burton Morris’ solo exhibition Icons in Bloom at MASH Gallery, Rose Couture IV distills the rose into a singular, commanding icon set against a saturated pink ground. At first glance, the composition recalls Morris’ earlier contemporary pop art works, where bold outlines and simplified forms emphasized clarity, immediacy, and graphic precision. The rose stands centered and declarative, echoing the visual language of classic Pop Art that elevated everyday imagery into cultural emblem.

Yet within this new body of work, the icon is subtly reopened. While Morris retains the crisp linear quality associated with the legacy of Andy Warhol and mid-century commercial aesthetics, the scale, surface presence, and tonal saturation shift the rose from decorative symbol to monumental statement. The flower is no longer simply reproduced. It is isolated, intensified, and elevated.

This evolution reflects Morris’ broader transition from tightly rendered graphic compositions toward a more conceptually refined exploration of luxury symbolism and permanence. By revisiting the rose as both fashion motif and enduring cultural icon, Rose Couture I expands contemporary pop art beyond replication and into a more distilled, architectonic form of visual power.
