Vojislav Radovanović
Biography
Vojislav Radovanović is a Serbian visual artist, curator, mentor, producer, and videographer based in Los Angeles County, California. Born in Valjevo, Serbia (formerly Yugoslavia) in 1982, he experienced the political unrest and war in the Balkans, influencing his artwork, which focuses on beauty, environmentalism, mental health, societal change, and decolonization. He moved to Los Angeles in 2017.
Radovanović’s work often features wild plants, especially weeds, as metaphors for nature’s resilience and human endurance, including LGBTQ+ identity and the immigrant experience.
Since his first solo exhibition at the National Museum of Valjevo at fifteen, Radovanović has shown his work internationally in numerous exhibitions. Notable venues include the Lancaster Museum of Art and History, Bakersfield Museum of Art, Torrance Art Museum, Ronald H. Silverman Art Gallery, Angels Gate Cultural Center, Diana Berger Gallery, Brea Art Gallery, Huntington Beach Art Center, California; Mall Galleries in London, UK; UNESCO Headquarters, The Swedish Institute in Paris, France; Centre of Contemporary Art in Torun, Poland; The Círculo de Bellas Artes de Madrid – CBA in Madrid, Spain; Belgrade City Museum, and Museum of Yugoslavia in Belgrade, Serbia. He was an artist-in-residence at MOAH Lancaster from 2021 to 2022, contributing to the local community through the Artists At Work program supported by the Mellon Foundation.
Radovanović and his partner, artist Jason Jenn, co-founded L.A. Art Documents, an online video archive of the contemporary art scene in Los Angeles and beyond. Radovanović is represented by the Walter Maciel Gallery in Los Angeles.
