Horn of Plenty

Oil on cotton

19.7″ X 16.5″

$4,470.00

Celebrating the 10-year adversary of Alexander McQueen’s passing. This shoe painting
reflects on his 2009 collection ‘Horn of Plenty.’ In classical symbolism this is commonly a
large horn shaped container overflowing with flowers or nuts, showing abundance and
nourishment. McQueen inverted its meaning, using the collection to condemn consumerism
and fast fashion, with fetishized fabrics and shapes tailored to perfection. Clapham said: ‘I
chose the backdrop of a classic William Morris fabric against the leather boot to show the
incongruity of past and present ideals.’
